*Bio*

The Dark Wave was established in 2019 by guitarist Erwin van der Zee, known for his prior work in the new wave group Presence of Mind, and ex-Flemming bassist Pepijn Grimmelikhuizen. The initial lineup was soon finalized with the addition of drummer Dennis van Houten (formerly of Von Veh), singer Chris Palmen, keyboardist and backing vocalist Esther de Jong, and guitarist Olaf de Wit. In its initial phase, the band primarily focused on creating sharp adaptations of classic post-punk tracks from the 1970s and 80s. A pivotal moment came in 2023 following Palmen’s departure; the role of lead vocalist was expertly filled by singer-songwriter Jelmer Luimstra (ex-Captain Felix, April Afternoon). This shift marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter as the band began crafting their own original material for the first time. In the autumn of 2024, they headed into Amsterdam’s renowned IJland Studio to record their first two singles, Seventeen and One of These Days. Both tracks successfully climbed into the IndieXL Top 20 charts, building significant momentum, resulting in invitations to do several interviews and gigs.

Alongside a busy schedule of energetic live performances, the band has been hard at work perfecting their highly anticipated debut EP, which is set for a major release in March 2026.
